Sydney Traffic Management for FIFA Women's World Cup

Traffic Management

CATO helped two local councils with traffic logistics for their public screening events this Women’s World Cup.

Providing traffic management services and facilitating road closures, our traffic controllers have loved being a part of the action. Whilst the Matildas might not have taken home the gold, we’re still incredibly proud of the tremendous effort they put in!

The CATO team has certainly found a new love for women’s soccer and is grateful to have been involved with these free, community events.

St Marys & South Penrith, Penrith City Council

We kicked things off with Penrith City Council two weeks ago for a screening of Australia’s triumphant win against Denmark. Following this, CATO provided a larger team of five traffic controllers for the Australia vs Sweden match on Saturday night.

Whilst we know Sweden came out on top, taking home third place in the competition, Aussie pride was still widespread on the night. The public viewing was held in Jamison Park and required trained traffic controllers to facilitate parking and road management of the area.

Zetland, City of Sydney

Over four separate nights, City of Sydney hosted public viewings for the Women’s World Cup. The site opened with Spain vs Sweden’s game last Tuesday. Then played the Australia vs England match that saw Australia knocked out of the final, followed by Australia vs Sweden on Saturday night. To finish up was Sunday’s World Cup final in which Spain beat England as the 2023 champions.

Catering for a potential 1500 attendees each night, our traffic crew provided all traffic management services, including traffic management plans and road closures. Having been engaged for Green Square Fest earlier in 2023, It’s not the first time CATO has worked with the City of Sydney in this spot. We can safely say it was great to be back!
