Kieran Cato joins the board of Screen Careers

October 2024

Kieran Cato, Managing Director of CATO Location Services, joins the board of Screen Careers. A not-for-profit organisation committed to creating, building and sustaining careers for below the line workers, with a mission to support the next generation of screen professionals.

Kieran joins a Board of Directors consisting of industry leaders lead by Chair Chris Oliver Taylor, ABC’s Chief Content Officer, Kate Marks, CEO Ausfilm; Adrian Swift, Head of Content, Production and Development, Channel 9; Will Hamilton, Director, Commercial and Business Operations BBC Studios; and Jackie Emery, Head of Business and Legal Affairs, Flying Bark Productions.

Screen Careers launched in March, backed by VicScreen and Screen Australia with a commitment to a four year funding agreement. Screen Careers is a one-stop online educational platform that creates, builds and sustains careers in the Australian screen industry. Their goal is simple – to recruit more workers, train and induct them so they’re ready for on-set employment and committed to lifelong learning.

Kieran’s commitment to Australian film industry careers started in 2012, when he identified a gap in the market for crew that understood the intricacies of filming and knowledge of set work. Initially established to provide premium support to the Film, TV and Events industries, CATO has since grown into the largest location services company in Sydney. Known for his innovative approach to business, Kieran has led CATO Location Services to become a carbon-neutral company, setting a new standard for sustainability in the industry.

As a Screen Careers board member, Kieran will bring his expertise and critical-thinking to address the Below The Line skills shortage. His leadership will be instrumental in driving Screen Careers’ mission to train, upskill, and support the next generation of screen professionals, creating long-term careers for the next generation joining the Australian film and screen industry.

If you’re searching for a career in the film industry, looking for career growth or education opportunities, join Screen Careers and kickstart your career, or email us at jobs@catolocationservices.com.au
