Honouring the incredible women who make us shine everyday.
This International Women’s Day, we sat down with three talented women from our team to learn more about their career journeys, those who inspire them, and advise they’d give to their younger selves.
Operations Manager
Can you share a bit about your journey into your current role?
I applied to join the Account Management team at CATO Location Services over four years ago, and I was lucky enough to be hired by Claire – our previous Account Management Lead and an absolute powerhouse! In my first couple of years, I found myself really enjoying and gravitating toward operations.
Just over two years ago, I stepped into the Operations Manager role, overseeing all the day-to-day aspects of CATO. Now, as part of the senior leadership team alongside Managing Director Kieran Cato, I’ve had an incredible opportunity for growth. I feel very lucky to have started my journey in such a supportive environment, surrounded by great mentors and wonderful colleagues. I certainly wouldn’t be where I am today without that support.
How do you see the role of women evolving in your industry over the next few years?
I think we’re seeing a really exciting shift in how women are shaping both the Film and TV and Construction industries. There’s more representation at leadership levels, and companies are starting to recognise the importance of diverse perspectives. That said, there’s still work to do in ensuring equal opportunities, and creating supportive environments for women to thrive. I’m hopeful that in the coming years, we’ll see an even stronger push toward inclusion and equality.
If you could give your younger self one piece of advice, what would it be?
I’d tell myself to stop overthinking and just go for it. So many times, I held back because I doubted whether I was ‘ready’ but the truth is, growth happens when you take the leap. It’s okay to not have all the answers; what matters is being willing to learn and adapt.
Senior Account Manager
What inspired you to pursue this career path?
I’ve never been the type of person to have a rigid plan for my career however I’ve always done my best to pursue employment that has some relation to my passion for the arts and culture. I have an academic background in film and media studies, which stems from my interest in how these industries provide collective and communal experiences to their audiences. This, in tandem with my working background in both hospitality and customer service, has aided me in my transition towards more logistically inclined roles where I am able to see projects come to fruition and provide the same sorts of collective experiences to my client’s audiences and attendees, which I’m very appreciative of!
What advice would you give to young women aspiring to enter the event industry?
Stay open to opportunity and try your best to not compare yourself to others. You are always in your own lane and no one else’s.
If you could have dinner with any inspiring woman, past or present, who would it be and why?
Agnes Varda and/or Isabella Rossellini, because they are both playfully intelligent, funny and creative!
What’s a book, podcast, or documentary that has really impacted you?
His Dark Materials, my favourite book series since I was a child. The main character has undoubtedly shaped me as I reread this series numerous times as a child/teen and is such a wonderfully complex young female protagonist.
Senior Account Manager
What’s the most rewarding aspect of your job?
Getting to help people with logistical challenges! Sometimes all the moving parts of a TVC (Television Commercial) or Event can be a bit confusing and we get stuck thinking in a particular way. It’s fun to think of things like a puzzle or riddle; how can we approach this differently or more efficiently? Or maybe I’m just lazy and hate doing things the hard way.
What does International Women’s Day mean to you?
To me, it’s a celebration of all the women who came before us and fought for change. I think it’s so easy to take current life for granted and forget how different the world was for women in the past. We really need to thank the women whose shoulders we stand on and also keep working for future generations.
If you could give your younger self one piece of advice, what would it be?
A wise friend once told me “if it’s not a f*#@ yes, it’s a no”, and I really live by that. Do things that excite you, take risks and have every adventure you can – life is too short.
